E-Liquid, eliquid or vape liquid

Good old fashion nicknames. Like Lone Star State for Texas or H-town for Houston. E-liquid is also known by many monikers — vape juice, vape liquid, or vape fluid. E-liquids are made up mostly of vegetable glycerin (VG) or propylene glycol (PG), flavoring, and various nicotine levels from 0 to 50mg.

Now known as traditional e-liquid, defined only by nicotine strength or type, it ranges from 0 to 6 mg in most cases and more rarely 9, 12, or 18mg. This is the original form of e-liquid and comes in various sizes bottles, 30ml, 60ml, 100ml, and 120ml. Traditional e-liquid works best in vape tanks and devices that use sub-ohm coils.

The introduction of salt nicotine eliquid in early 2016, commonly known as salt nic, is the reason for the naming differences between the two types of eliquid. Salt nic strengths also vary but have a high nicotine concentration and were specially designed for pod-based vape devices with higher ohm coils.

What is Vape E-Liquid?

E-liquid is the fluid used in vaporizers and electronic cigarettes that creates the actual vapor.

Most liquids are of 70VG/30PG blend, which seems to be the industry standard. Propylene glycol is the flavor carrier — Vegetable glycerin generates the cloud and assists in proper viscosity and vaporization.

With the politicization of the vape industry, we take extra care with what we stock on our shelves and the wording and terminology we use. However, the continued viability of the vape industry is crucial to us for one reason; we believe it is the most critical industry to the future of healthy adults.

Due to the issues with minors vaping and politicians attacking the vaping industry, we do not use the terms vape juice or e-juice as the perception is that candy and fruit flavors appeal to minors. Concerning vaping and e-liquid, the word juice is a word that the professionals in the industry are outmoding due to its perception of actual juice that kids would drink.

What is PG in E-Liquid?

PG stands for Propylene Glycol, a petroleum by-product. The fluid has no odor or color and is less viscous than VG. Propylene Glycol is a common ingredient in foods, medicines, and cosmetics to absorb and maintain moisture content.

In vaping, it is used to provide a ‘throat hit’, which some users claim is similar to the sensation experienced when smoking tobacco. It also carries flavor more effectively than VG, making it the most used suspension fluid for flavor concentrates and nicotine.

What is VG in E-liquid?

VG stands for Vegetable Glycerin. Is commonly used in foods, medicines, and cosmetics to blend water oil-based ingredients. It is a natural chemical derived from vegetable oils, allowing for use in all-natural products and suitable for vegans.

It is commonly used in vape liquids to give the vapor a ‘thick’ sensation or dense cloud on exhale. VG has a slightly sweet taste and is considerably thicker than PG. In addition, vegetable glycerin provides a much smoother throat hit than Propylene Glycol, making it more suitable for sub-ohm vaping. While nicotine and flavorings are commonly suspended in PG, some vendors offer a VG alternative to enable 100% VG mixes.

Traditonal Eliquid vs Salt Nic

As we mentioned earlier, traditional eliquid is the original formulation of the liquid used in vape devices.

These consist of the ingredients we described above, plus nicotine and flavorings. Also called conventional or freebase eliquid, most prefer simply using eliquid.

Salt nic or salt nicotine was created by Pax Labs, the former parent company of Juul. It was a creation to increase the nicotine content of the liquid, allowing for a smaller device and less power consumption. Alas, the Juul device and now disposable vapes and pod devices. Salt nic, as it’s most commonly called, would also allow for the older device or battery technology to be utilized in conjunction with newer coil technology.

Salt nicotine has one different primary ingredient, that is, in the nicotine itself, not added to the eliquid, like flavoring would be—benzoic acid. This additional ingredient allows vapers to take advantage of a higher concentration of nicotine while reducing the PH or the harshness of too much nicotine. If you have ever vaped an eliquid with too much nicotine, you will notice a harsh or heavy throat hit; this is vastly reduced in salt nic.
